Recognize the Past, Inspire the Future
In May 1825, nine ships sailed from Cobh, Ireland, carrying over 2,000 impoverished Irish immigrants to a new land in what is now Nogojiwanong-Peterborough, Peterborough County, and the City of Kawartha Lakes in east-central Ontario. This significant migration, overseen by Peter Robinson and financially supported by the British Government, is a cornerstone of our local history.
With the support of the Peterborough Canadian Irish Club, a dedicated Board of volunteers has formed Nine Ships 1825 Inc., a non-profit organization. This group is committed to coordinating and sharing information about the upcoming Peter Robinson Bicentenary with various Irish-related groups locally, across North America, and in Ireland.
The upcoming Peter Robinson Bicentenary offers an opportunity to recognize our Irish heritage and appreciate the unique opportunities we have been given. We invite Peter Robinson descendants, those who share our Irish heritage, and friends of the Irish from every cultural and ethnic background to join us in 2025 to mark this special bicentenary occasion.
